We’re wrapping up our Legislative Session Update Tour with two final stops in Port Byron and Chillicothe.
These events have given me the opportunity to travel across the 37th Senate District, talk about what happened during the spring legislative session and most importantly, hear directly from the people I represent.
On Monday, Aug. 31, I’ll be joined by Senator Neil Anderson at the River Valley District Library in Port Byron from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Along with an update from Springfield, we’ll spend time discussing the Tyson Foods plant shutdown and what it means for workers and communities throughout the area. We want to hear directly from those impacted and make sure workers know about resources and employment opportunities available to them.
Efforts are already underway to connect affected workers with new jobs. A Rapid Response Workshop will be held Sept. 2 at Vibrant Arena at the Mark in Moline, featuring information on workforce programs, unemployment, health, and retirement, along with a resource fair and hiring event. My office is also working to organize another job fair in the area, with more details coming soon.
Then, on Tuesday, Sept. 1, I’ll join Senator Chris Balkema for our final Legislative Session Update at the Shore Acres Clubhouse in Chillicothe from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
We’ll talk about the latest from Springfield and hear what issues are most important to residents.
